What’s the best thing about having a trailerable boat so far? Working on it in OUR OWN YARD. Having access to all our tools, being able to make a mess in the boat and not worry about cleaning it up before dinner or going to bed, letting Renata run amok — it’s THE BEST.
We’re itching to launch, but...
Keeping your boat from floating away can be as simple as throwing out an anchor. But if you plan to leave the boat in the same spot for long periods of time, you might want to consider building a mooring. In this episode we walk through every part of our mooring system, from the bow of the boat down...
Where do you keep a boat that’s TWENTY-THREE feet wide?? After returning to Michigan with our new trimaran, this quickly became the biggest hurdle before getting her in the water. A doublewide slip would still be a tight fit, not to mention it would cost a fortune, and the waitlist for slips in our ...
This week we welcomed aboard our family for the holidays!🎄Together, we sailed to Christmas Cove to check out Pizza Pi VI- the local floating pizza shop. We dealt with some power supply/generator issues, explored the nearby beaches, and grilled up a steak dinner while on anchor. What did you do for t...
Five years ago we bought a sailboat and left home to go cruising. Now, after buying a trailerable boat, we’re SO EXCITED to be returning home to go cruising!
Kirk flew down to Florida to scoop up a Farrier F9AX trimaran that we’d been eyeing for months. With the sale complete, he’s about to trailer...

We’re on the hunt for our next boat! We’re looking for a trimaran that’s big enough to live on for several weeks to a month+ at a time, but still small enough to trailer. It’s been tough — if not impossible! — to find. So far most of the boats we’ve seen have been too small in one dimension or anoth...
For the past 3+ years we’ve been secretly on the hunt for our next boat. Last episode we talked about what kind of boat we’re looking for — a trailerable trimaran! — and why we think it’s the best next boat for us. (Want to see it? ) In this ep we take you time traveling to tour three different tri...
What kind of boat we’ve been secretly dreaming about for the last 3+ years?
Living, traveling and working on our monohull gave us a lot of insight into what we did and did not like about our first boat and our cruising lifestyle. Because we value spending time with our families in the Midwest, we h...
Once we decided it was time, it happened SO FAST. One day we were in Michigan writing the ‘for sale’ ad for our Tartan 37, and a few weeks later we were in Florida getting the rest of our belongings off a boat — that was no longer ours.
We knew this day would come, but when it’s finally time to sa...

We didn’t know it then — sailing into the sunset across the Gulf of Mexico — but this would be our last journey aboard our beloved Tartan 37.
For a long time we’ve known there’d be a “next” boat. But what exactly would it be? W...
Join us for a 3 day sail from Brunswick, Georgia to Norfolk, Virginia! Along the way we caught 4 fish, saw lots of dolphins, and passed the famous Cape Hatteras Diamond Shoal Lighthouse. 🌊

The jury’s still out after taking this catamaran for a sail with our friends, Jordan & Randi from @LearningtheLines.
After Kirk gets a long-awaited kiteboarding lesson from Jordan, we all hop aboard a Nautitech 40 Open for a weekend cruise out of Key West. A boisterous sail from Stock Island t...
For the last 3 years, we’ve put our electric outboard through the ringer. So what’s the verdict? In this episode, we tell you what we like and don’t like about our ePropulsion Spirit Outboard, how we power it from the sun, and pick our winner: gas or electric?
Hope you enjoy!

Sailing is tough, and often uncomfortable. Anything that makes life easier or more comfortable onboard means you’ll sail more, and enjoy it more.
We’ve had a spinnaker/whisker pole onboard since a fellow sailor donated one to us in Mobile, Alabama. We’ve tried to rig it once or twice, but never had...
Not every week is full of snorkeling and sunbathing! Join us while we treat our canvas hatch covers, fix the watermaker (again?!), install a new deck light, and reprovision before leaving the mooring field.

Need a pick-me-up? A little warmth to perk up the gloomy spring that many of you northern hemisphere-dwellers have been slogging through?
Settle in. We’ve got bright sun, beautiful seas, full sails, heaps of smiles, and of course, a cute baby for you. Hope you enjoy!
Much love,

This week we left Marathon and sailed to Rodriguez Key. Holly dove the boat to check for a clog in the watermaker system, before we headed on to Miami. We dropped anchor and adjusted our bobstays to adapt to the current in the anchorage, and were greeted by some dolphins!

This week we worked on our watermaker, had a few sundowners, and cooked up some fish tacos while on anchor in the Florida Keys (Marathon/Boot Key area). We also experienced some funky electronic behavior, possibly due to radio frequency interference in the anchorage… have you ever experienced this b...
With a forecast of light winds and sunny skies, our first sail with Renata started off perfectly. Wellll, just give it 20 minutes…
…and Kirk’s climbing the mast, Lauren’s minding the crying baby, the wind is gone and it looks like Soulianis won’t ever make it to her destination. 😂 This first sail w...
We’re back!!

We leave the dock, woohoo! How far do we make it in the first week? Drumroll, please…four miles! Have we mentioned traveling by boat isn’t exactly fast? Okay, okay, there was a reason: a shipment of parts for our new mainsail had yet to arrive. But still. Sailing is slow even when you aren’t sailing...
This is our third time launching the boat after spending time on the hard. We’ve figured out the routine, for the most part, and each time has been easier than the last. But with so many moving parts, literally and figuratively, it seems like there’s always a new surprise or challenge.
