Heya, we’re Cozzy and Mitcho. Thanks for joining us on our Sailing Ocean Life as we sail to the stunning Banda Neira, the island of FIRE & SPICE.
Our next stop on the Sail to Indonesia rally is Banda Neira and what a gorgeous place to drop the pick. Banda Neira is quite a famous spot as in the bygone era, they were instrumental in the spice trade, with mace, nutmeg, and peppers on offer to international traders. The value of these commodities far exceeded the cost of gold and as in today’s times, where there is money to be made, conflict often goes hand in hand, so they were faced with conflict as the Dutch and Portuguese fought for these valuable spices.
But today, the town folk live quiet, peaceful lives and are always quick with a smile or a greeting – Selamat Pagi (Good Morning) or a nod of their heads, as always, the Indonesians are warm and welcoming – we love Indonesia more and more as we sail through its amazing landscapes.
Next time, we are faced with boat work in paradise as our anchor winch nearly ripped off the side of our bow with the deep anchorage (60m) at Banda Neira, so we’re stuck sanding and reassembling our windlass, keep us company while we toil in paradise.
Thanks so much for coming aboard on our Indonesia adventures, thank you, we appreciate you sticking around. It’s always more fun having you here!
