Can we make friends sailing on the other side of the world? - Eps 86

Hi Salty Mates,

Welcome aboard Salty Days Adventures.

When we left Australia to start this sailing adventure through the Caribbean, we knew we'd discover incredible places... but we never expected how hard it would be to leave our family and friends behind.

For the first few months, finding new mates wasn't as easy as we'd hoped. A lot of the boats cruising the Caribbean are charter boats, filled with families enjoying their holidays, so meeting new people isn't always high on their agendas. And let's be honest... they probably weren't looking for two weird Aussies to join the party either!

Then we arrived in Marigot Bay, St Lucia.

What started as a chance meeting with some fellow Aussies turned into some special moments that we'll remember forever. In fact, this little bay bought three different crews on three different times into our lives and wow, we're so grateful for their friendship.

This episode is a reminder that while the anchorages, beaches and sunsets are unforgettable, it's the people we meet along the way that make this sailing life so special.

Our first sponsor - Maya Mobile

We're pretty excited to welcome our first ever sponsor, Maya Mobile, to Salty Days Adventures!

And honestly, their eSIM literally saved our arses.

We recently got caught in a squall and sadly our beloved Starlink disappeared overboard. Yup I know you can feel our pain, we were left floating around with no internet, no Starlink and no easy way to get a replacement dish in Martinique.

So, we headed to a local restaurant, jumped on their free Wi-Fi and got ourselves sorted with a Maya eSIM.

I'd actually used Maya on a recent trip to Paris to holiday with my daughter, but I didn't realise just how useful it would become out here. I grabbed a 7-day plan for around $28 AUD, headed back to the boat, and we were back online with data that just kept working.

We're now about six weeks into relying heavily on the Maya eSIM, and it's been a lifesaver for everything from keeping in touch to navigating and staying connected when Starlink isn't an option.

We're really happy to be working with Maya, and they've kindly given our Salty Mates a discount too!
