Very Nearly About Sailing’s Paul embarks on a unique project, stepping away from the world of boats to focus on a 1980 Honda CB250N Superdream motorcycle. This captivating journey highlights the restoration process, maintenance, and exhilarating test ride experience. Dive into Paul’s compelling story as he brings this classic bike back to life.
Paul’s Motorcycle Adventure Begins
In July 2024, Paul takes on a project unlike any other, diving into the world of motorcycle restoration. Purchasing a Honda CB250N Superdream at a great price, he eagerly starts to bring it back to its former glory. With a fresh new Avon Road Rider Mark 2 Tire and numerous mechanical enhancements, Paul is excited about the progress being made on his bike.
Exploring Technical Details
Throughout this project, Paul meticulously explains all the technical details of the Honda CB250N Superdream. He covers everything from adjusting the chain to rebuilding the suspension and ensuring that every aspect of the restoration process is thoroughly documented.
Testing Out the Restored Motorcycle
The highlight of Paul’s motorcycle project comes during his exhilarating test ride, where he compares his new motorcycle’s speedo with a GPS device for accuracy. Despite having a limited top speed, the handling and performance are commendable, making this vintage bike an enjoyable ride.
Paul’s Personal Connection to Honda Motorcycles
Adding depth to the story, Paul shares his personal history with Honda motorcycles. He talks about working in a Honda dealership immediately after university and his experience riding their 750F2 model, which he fondly describes as being “the fastest production motorcycle in the world at the time.”
A Destination Ride
For his test ride, Paul decides to take the Honda CB250N Superdream on a destination trip to Grove Ferry. Alongside capturing scenic footage and discussing his restoration journey, he also explores nearby areas like the river Stow and local motorcycle shops.
Paul’s Motorcycle Journey Continues
Paul ends his first video with a teaser of what’s to come in future episodes. He mentions plans for rebuilding the bike’s suspension, adjusting the balance chain, and possibly upgrading its performance capabilities.
Concluding Thoughts
As Paul concludes his first motorcycle project video, it’s evident that this journey is more than just restoring a classic bike—it’s an opportunity for him to explore, share insights, and enjoy the thrill of riding once again.
“I could do with a bit of GAP—I need to get some health things sorted out. You won’t have to wait more than a couple of weeks for the next video and part two.”
Next Episode Teaser
Looking ahead, Paul promises that his second video will provide even more detailed coverage of the motorcycle’s mechanical aspects. Expect to see in-depth footage and insights on adjusting the balance chain, as well as further progress on other restoration tasks.

Absolutely nothing to do with sailing this month. I wanted an easy project I could start and finish in a reasonable timescale. This video is just a before and after, plus some riding footage. The next video (coming soon) will show the actual Fixing and Fettling element.
