In this exclusive tour of our workshop, we showcase the various DIY projects we’ve been working on. From creating table saw jigs to building a pedal board and a small cabinet, we’ve utilized these woodworking skills to enhance our boat-building process. As enthusiasts of watersports and global water adventure tourism, it’s essential for us to maintain a well-organized workshop that allows us to create accurate and durable components for our boats.
Small Workshop Tour
Welcome to our small workshop, a space where we refine our woodworking skills in preparation for building both the HDPE and galley components of our boat. In this episode, we focus on various projects such as making table saw jigs, assembling a pedal board, and constructing a small cabinet.
Table Saw Jigs
We designed and crafted multiple table saw jigs for various purposes. The cross-cut jig allows for precise, safe cuts across the grain of the wood. The spline jig enables us to insert splines in wooden joints to reinforce their strength and provide an aesthetically pleasing finish. Lastly, the upright jig aids in making accurate angled cuts, ensuring that all corners of our boat components are perfect.
Assembling a Pedal Board
Our acoustic pedal board is designed to minimize cable clutter on stage, a common requirement for live performances. We created a recess within the board to store cables inside and keep our performance area organized.
Building a Small Cabinet
We took on the challenge of building a small cabinet, which includes an adjustable shelving system and intricate spline joints to increase its strength. This project demonstrates our attention to detail and focus on quality craftsmanship.
Workshop Organization
In addition to the various woodworking projects we tackled, we also spent time organizing our workshop space. We’ve arranged and labeled every tool, ensuring that everything is easily accessible and stored in a way that allows for maximum workspace. The result is a clutter-free environment conducive to productive boat-building sessions.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, we aim to complete our HDPE and galley projects in this newly organized space. Our future plans include creating a router table for even more precise cuts on our boat components and experimenting with other materials like HDPE. The improvements we made to the workshop’s efficiency have significantly contributed to the overall quality of our craftsmanship.
As water enthusiasts, having a well-equipped workshop space allows us to fully immerse ourselves in boat-building and sailing adventures, ensuring that all our future escapades on the high seas are safe, enjoyable, and memorable ones.
This is really a follow on from last month. Trying out the remaining table saw jigs and making a couple of things. Plus the long promised tour of my very small workshop.
