This is a long one with lots of talking and lots of theory.

Read the following description to see if you really want to know this stuff. And if you do already know it then you probably won’t get much from this video, so go straight on to part 2.
I want to do two tests on the heater to see where it is best to have the ‘heated air’ inlet – air coming from outside the boat, or inside the cabin and ‘recirculated’.
My aim to to get the inside environment in Serenity as comfortable as possible with no condensation problems. The actual test is in part 2 which will be the next video.
But before doing the experimental test I wanted to do a video to get everyone up to speed on the physics behind Relative Humidity, Absolute Humidity, Dew Point, Temperature and Condensation. The relationship between these is key to whether or not condensation becomes a problem or not.
This is a big topic that a lot of people shy away from. I have tried to make it as comprehensive but simple as possible (with no math(s)), but without being too superficial.
This stuff is important because, as we all know, “You can’t change the laws of physics”. Condensation is very predictable, but only if you know the “laws”.
Here are the key parts if you don’t want to watch all of it at once.
0:00 Overview
3:05 Relationship between Absolute Humidity, Relative Humidity, & Temperature. How to work out Dew Point using a graph.
19:50 Principles of how insulation can prevent condensation
25:30 Worked examples showing how an increase in Relative Humidity can drastically make condensation problems worse.
32:06 Wrap up

I said last month that I was going to do a test camping trip this month. And I actually did what I said I would do - that never happens. Apart from the swelteringly hot weather, and lack of appropriate hot weather gear, it all went very well. I survived it...
VNAS April 2025 – I’ve just bought a brand new Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 – Why?
I've been wittering on about getting a new bike for a few months. It's finally been decided - and I've bought it. But why this particular bike? Basically because it does pretty much all I want it to do. Moto-camping, travelling, on road, off-road. And it's...

Plan is still to change the channel name to Very Nearly About Something. But I had a technical problem. Although, for some of you reading this (assuming I fix the problem), that might already have happened. Here is the link to the official outcome of the c...
VNAS February 2025 – Ride out to a castle to test new bar risers and head race bearings – success!
It was a cold day (4 degrees C), but otherwise perfect weather and a good opportunity to see what difference, if any, the new head race bearings and handlebar risers made. In short; a huge difference!

This is the channel previously called Very Nearly About Sailing (and before that, Just About Sailing). It will shortly become, Very Nearly About Something to reflect the fact that there will be Two Wheeled travel alongside getting my Mirage 28 Sailboat bac...
