The Grenadines: A Sailing Paradise! Apart from one thing… (EP11)

In the latest update from Elixir’s voyage, we find some fun waves in Grenada, before sailing up to the uninhabited island of Ronde. Our friends Matt and Suzanne (from Hecate), discovered the windward side of the island to be completely covered in marine plastic.

As well as tons of marine plastic, they also found a collection of leatherback turtle nests – a depressing combination. Imagine, a family of baby turtles using their first precious breaths to push their way through mounds of plastic waste.

It didn’t take much convincing for us, eight other boats, and a group of volunteers from Grenada to sail up there for the weekend, and spending a day collecting everything we could.

Next, we head west and further into the unknown, following the trade winds across the Caribbean sea.

In our next episode, we get an unexpected visit from a scary group of individuals off the coast of Venezuela on our way to the Dutch island of Curacao.
