The final leg of our Atlantic crossing didn’t exactly begin as planned.
Just after leaving Horta in the Azores and setting course for France, one of the most important systems aboard Moonfleet suddenly stopped working. Our digital stabilizers—essential for comfort and safety during offshore passagemaking—failed at the worst possible time: right at the start of a 1,300-mile ocean crossing.
With the only other option to turn back and miss our weather window, Captain Ken went straight into troubleshooting mode, crawling under panels and diagnosing the problem while we were already underway.
But that wasn’t the only challenge. Before we could even leave, fueling the boat turned into a 3½-hour marathon, reminding us that life aboard a long-range trawler rarely goes according to plan.
