From clearing in and exploring Puerto Plata’s old fort and Umbrella Street to discovering what’s hidden behind the resort’s massive walls, this is the real cruiser’s view of the Dominican Republic.
Including a surprise VIP resort tour we took mostly out of curiosity—and because they promised free breakfast!
In this episode of Unanchored Life, we explore some of Puerto Plata’s top attractions, including the colorful Umbrella Street, the historic Fortaleza San Felipe, and the lively town beyond the marina. Then we do what any curious cruisers would do: we go behind the walls to tour an enormous VIP Lifestyle Resort that feels more Monaco-meets-theme-park than Caribbean fishing village.
