On his solo, nonstop record setting around the Americas circumnavigation, Matt Rutherford relied on a Monitor windvane. Technically, he was “coastal cruising” a few hundred miles offshore and through the Arctic’s Northwest Passage. However, on his 10K mile Pacific leg from Alaska to Cape Horn, winds did blow him nearly to Polynesia.
