After storms threatened around us all night out at the reef, we were eager to escape the coral bombie minefield and head towards civilisation. Upon coming back into reception we see northerly winds have well and truely set in, but for the next few days they are looking light, we thought of using the opportunity of light winds to motor into them towards Magnetic Island because YES, although cyclone season is on the horizon, WE PLAN to continue north. Though, it’s been a while since we have refuelled and upon sticking a dip stick into the fuel tanks we realise we don’t have enough fuel to do that…back to the original plan of heading towards the mainland. We have beautiful day sail until we begin seeing storm clouds developing over the land as approach Gloucester Passage…little did we know this would be the beginning of a few days of storms. Each storm brewing to deliver the mother of all storms…A super cell was moving up the coast on its way towards us, on anchor on our small sailboat. This monster of a storm brought with it 70 knots gusts, a ripper lightning show and even managed to pick up our inflatable tender from the water and plonk it onto the decks…
