We didn’t realise how close we were… until it was almost too late.

In this episode of Sailing with Six, we make our way through the remote southern atolls of the Maldives in search of a place we’d heard incredible things about — Five Islands.

With limited information on anchorages, broken gear along the way, and more problem-solving than sailing at times, getting there was anything but straightforward. From fixing our watermaker and electric winch, to creating our own anchorage in unfamiliar waters, this journey pushed both us and our boat.

And then, an unexpected storm rolled through.

With a sudden wind shift, building seas, and very little protection, we found ourselves just metres from the reef — fighting to keep our home safe in conditions even the locals hadn’t expected.

Despite the challenges, Five Islands gave us some of our most beautiful days in the Maldives — and one of our scariest nights. It’s a place we’ll never forget.
