S2E55 Building my $200 Cruising Mast (28 feet) Part 1

In this episode, we carefully select construction grade, spruce, pine and fir lumber. I then make a scarfing jig to cut scarf joints before laminating the lumber. Everything is completed with basic woodworking skills and tools. I’m using Titebond 3 glue to laminate the lumber and the mast dimensions comes out of tables from the book: Design and Build your own Junk Rig by Derek Van Loan. This is part 1 of 2. In Part 2 I will shape the mast into a hexadecagon and I will explain why I built a solid vs a hollow mast as well as my choice of lumber and glue. ***Benefactors Bulkhead Alert*** There are only 25 spaces left to fill on the bulkhead. Check out the link below to become a Wave Rover Benefactor.

The scarfing jig I use is just an extension of the basic scarfing jig that I designed in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sOnvIbdEGU The digital plans for this jig are still available from my Etsy Shop: [ BUILD YOUR OWN SCARFING JIG]
