CHECKING OUT OF MEXICO AFTER 6 MONTHS!! [Ep. 39]

We've been sailing around Mexico for 6 months now and wow the time has flown by! If you've been watching since the beginning you'll know that we left the dock in Vancouver before the boat was ready and so have been refitting our boat along the way. We've also had engine failures and steering problems intermixed with free diving and fishing. All while learning how to sail! This week is our last week in Mexico and we are very excited to be finally heading out into the open ocean again for what will be our longest passage yet!

So we’re here still in Mexico just on the border between Mexico and Guatemala and the winds are looking pretty good for about 3 days time to start heading south all the way to Panama.

Boat Jobs, Ropes & Preparations Before Leaving Mexico

Skipper Aaron and Jess have been in this beautiful Mexican marina for about 6 months now. Over the past week, they’ve tackled some significant boat jobs including cutting up wood and fiberglassing. It’s all hands on deck as they make a huge mess to fix things.

Figuring Out All This Rope

The couple is going through piles of old and new ropes. They bought plenty at a crazy good deal when still at the dock in Vancouver, but now they have to decide what to do with all that rope.

Provisioning Before Leaving Mexico

Aaron and Jess recognize the need to provision in case they leave within a day or two. They hurry to the local store for some groceries, vegetables, snacks, and fresh fruit. A bit pressed for time as there’s daylight dwindling.

Checking Out of Mexico – Process and Military Inspections

The sailing couple now heads to the marina office for checking out of Mexico. It’s a two-day process including military inspections. Aaron and Jess agree to leave the following day at 10 AM after getting fuel in the morning as they can’t do that post-checkout from the country.

Fueling Up Before Leaving Mexico

They fill up on massive fuel at a designated fuel dock, ensuring to have enough for over 3000 nautical miles of their journey to Panama City. With fuel comes a heavier boat.

Cleaning Up and Preparing to Depart Mexico

The couple also sorts out all their dock lines, replacing some with salvaged line from an old sea anchor. Many ropes and bits are stored away, including filling up lockers with jerry cans filled up at the same Vancouver location they previously had fuel issues.

Sailing Supernova’s Last Moments in Mexico

Aaron and Jess share their excitement about leaving, but also mention bad news that they will touch upon later. Their close sailing friends are crossing the Pacific to Australia. There’s much to do, and it seems there won’t be a lot accomplished by this day.

They plan to watch their Patreons an exclusive video every week, in addition to YouTube subscribers who help them out immensely with likes, comments, and subscriptions. Next week is going to be their biggest sale yet, so stay tuned!
