14. Boat Life | Exploring Comino Malta and we break our anchor windlass! | Sailing Sunday |

After an awesome overnight stay in Blue Lagoon, Comino Island/Malta we moved anchorages to avoid the crazy crowds of tourists and meet up with our friends for a couple nights!

The island was perfect for exploring with the dog and we had our own swimming pool right off the edge of the boat.

Jackson decided to jump off the boat for the first time and take a swim much to our surprise! We want to encourage him to swim off the boat for those hot days but weren’t prepared for it and panicked. luckily he swam straight to shore and didn’t try to get back on the boat or we would have been in for a struggle!

While trying to bring up our anchor the windlass decided to die and with the help of friends we pulled up 60 meters of chain by hand (not fun)

We were planning to stay a few more nights but that cut it all short.

Back at the marina Ryan was quick to pull the windlass apart and find that the teeth inside the gearbox had warn down which was causing the issue.

We jumped online and less than 24 hours later we had our new gearbox from sparesmarine.co.uk for more than half the price of the boat shops here in town.

The windlass is back up and running just in time as our stay here at the Yacht club has come to and end!

Now the adventure is officially in full swing as we get ready for our crossing over to Sicily and onto Croatia!
