Episode 113 Summary
This episode follows Jay and Kenna as they sail towards an uninhabited island off the coast of Mexico near La Paz, hoping for better shelter from strong winds that have been haunting their previous Anchorage in San Evero. Their first attempt at a beach landing on this new island ends up being a challenging one due to unexpected gusts; they end up losing both ores inside their dinghy.Their short exploration of the small fishing village yields no immediate success, with the only notable find being an inflamed eel washed ashore. But then comes an unexpected turn: they receive news from another boat about a hitchhiker named Thomas who needs to reach La Paz to catch his flight; and in true cruiser spirit, Jay and Kenna offer him a lift.
Having a third person aboard offers them a fresh perspective on cruising life which often gets normalized with time. Throughout their journey, they navigate through sporty waves, manage sailing challenges such as using the pole for efficient sailing angles, enjoy sunset in one of the most intense shades seen so far, and share stories over a delicious meal of mahi-mahi.
In essence, this episode brings out vivid colors and characters amidst serene yet challenging nautical landscapes that underscored their voyage towards realizing their dreams.
Sailing to an uninhabited island with a stranger! In this episode, we sail from San Evaristo to Ensenada De La Raza on Espirtu Santo Island in Mexico. When doing so, we got asked by a stranger (a former crew member on a boat we shared the anchorage with) if he could tag along and sail south with us to catch a flight out of La Paz. Our instincts told us to say yes and he ended up becoming a very good friend of ours ever since!! Crazy what life throws at you.
