Exploring a desolate anchorage in Mexico (with unexpected company😳) | Sailing Sitka Ep 114

Welcome back to Season 2 of Sailing Sitka, where we follow the adventures of Jay and Kenna, two young Canadians who have decided to live out their dreams of sailing around the world. After setting sail from Victoria, BC, Canada, they have been exploring the stunning coasts of Mexico, with even more incredible destinations yet to come.

Exploring a Desolate Anchorage in Mexico

In this week’s episode, Jay and Kenna find themselves anchored in Enata Bay, an idyllic spot on the remote island of Espiritu Santo. This breathtaking location is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Sea of Cortez off Mexico’s west coast and boasts striking contrasts between its sea and desert surroundings.

Sunset Sailing

With only two other boats sharing their haven at Enata Bay, Jay and Kenna revel in the solitude of this secluded spot. They make the most of their surroundings by enjoying saltwater baths, a well-deserved treat after an exhausting day on the open seas.

Snorkeling Expeditions

The pristine waters around Enata Bay offer perfect snorkeling conditions for our adventurers, allowing them to explore the vividly colored marine life below the surface. Jay and Kenna have numerous unexpected encounters while snorkeling – including close-ups of fascinating puffer fish, crabs, and an array of captivating creatures in the surrounding coral reefs.

Dining on the Island

After a successful day exploring the waters surrounding their anchorage, Jay and Kenna feast on freshly caught mahi-mahi fish for dinner. Despite their lack of lobster on this occasion due to the rock’s tight confines, they embrace a culinary adventure by experimenting with new recipes and enjoying the bounties of the sea.

Overcoming Challenges

The crew also face minor accidents on this island retreat. Jay suffers a cut to his thumb while preparing Pico de Gallo for their meal, requiring some makeshift first aid from their limited supplies aboard Sitka.

Enjoying Island Paradise

In this idyllic bay paradise, our intrepid adventurers enjoy a well-earned respite after the challenges and excitement of their sailing adventures. As evening descends upon the island, they soak up the serenity as sunset paints its colors across the sky.
