Pink and Blue Jobs on a boat :How do we divide the workload and why

Who does what when you live and sail together 24/7? And what happens when the person who normally does a job suddenly can’t?

On Sea Moon, we definitely have what we jokingly call our “pink jobs” and “blue jobs.” There are jobs Scott naturally takes responsibility for, jobs Sandy would much rather do, and a few jobs neither of us particularly enjoys!

But when you’re sailing two-handed, dividing the workload is only part of the story. What happens if one of us is injured, sick or simply unavailable when something goes wrong?

In this episode, we talk about how we divide the jobs aboard Sea Moon, the importance of redundancy, the critical systems we believe both of us need to understand, and the jobs we always tackle together.

We certainly don't have the perfect system — this is simply what works for us after thousands of miles sailing together.

How do you divide the jobs in your household or on your boat? Are there definitely “pink jobs” and “blue jobs” in your world too? Let us know in the comments.
