Boat Life Hack: We Fixed Our Watermaker with a Coffee Machine Accessory!
On the final day of their stay at Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Pattaya, Thailand, the Sailing Ruby Rose crew had a lot on their plate as they prepared to depart for Malaysia. One essential task was repairing their watermaker which had packed up during their stay.
The team’s dedication and hard work finally paid off as expert Phil Harper, who had been working on the boat for eight months, attempted to fix the crucial watermaking equipment. In addition to fixing the watermaker, other important tasks included getting their new davits installed, repairing their ice machine, and addressing a leaking freshwater tank.
Racing Against Time
The crew of Ruby Rose 2 were working against the clock, hoping to have everything sorted out in time for their departure. Despite numerous delays and challenges along the way, they managed to overcome these obstacles with perseverance and determination.
An Innovative Repair
In a clever and innovative repair method, Phil Harper used a barista tampering tool to make a washer. This makeshift washer allowed them to apply the necessary pressure on the failing bulkhead fitting that had been causing the leaks.
Finally Working
Although not without challenges, Phil successfully rebuilt and sealed the watermaker system. After a freshwater flush, it finally started functioning properly again – just in time for their departure!
Sailing On
With everything fixed and running smoothly, the Sailing Ruby Rose crew cast off their lines and set sail towards Malaysia. This essential repair ensured they had access to fresh water for their long voyage.
