Difficult Sailing Experience in Malaysia – An Unforgettable Adventure
A Difficult Journey into Malaysia’s Beautiful Waters
The Ruby Rose 2 set sail on a challenging yet thrilling journey into the waters of Malaysia. Nick and Tessa, intrepid sailors, faced various obstacles as they embarked on this adventure.
Weather Challenges
Nick and Tessa encountered unfavorable weather conditions in the Gulf of Thailand, battling against strong winds and heavy swells. Despite these challenges, they maintained a positive attitude, trusting their navigation skills to guide them safely towards Terengganu.
The Bureaucratic Process
Navigating the bureaucratic process of clearing into Malaysia presented another set of hurdles. Initially believing they had a Malaysian courtesy flag, they realized their mistake and set out to acquire the proper flag before arriving in Terengganu.
The Hunt for Fuel
Determined to resolve all issues, they filled their tanks with the necessary 300L of fuel. Their perseverance was put to the test as they visited four petrol stations, only able to purchase diesel upon their third attempt. Despite these obstacles, Nick and Tessa successfully completed the process.
A Night to Remember
The night brought further excitement as they entered Malaysian waters. Nick ventured out in the dingy during a high tide, navigating through a challenging swell that seemed to come from every direction.
In a moment of resourcefulness, Nick utilized a dry bag as makeshift fenders, protecting their valuable dingy against potential damage. This daring maneuver allowed them to successfully secure fuel for the journey ahead.
Sailing Towards New Adventures
With all issues addressed and their clearances in hand, Nick and Tessa now look forward to exploring Malaysia’s beautiful waters further. Although this leg of their journey was filled with challenges, it has only strengthened their resolve as sailors.
A Lesson Learned
The Ruby Rose 2 crew discovered an essential lesson – that preparedness and flexibility are key to overcoming any obstacle, even in the most unexpected places. They now continue their adventures with a renewed sense of determination and passion.
A Special Thank You
Nick, Tessa, and the entire crew at Ruby Rose 2 extend a heartfelt thank you to their devoted community of patrons for their continued support. Stay tuned as they embark on more thrilling adventures across Malaysia’s magnificent coastline.

Hey there! We're Nick and Terysa and we’ve become completely obsessed with the idea of sailing around the world and sharing our experiences and information through our sailing lifestyle videos with others.
We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and have adventures! We moved onto our 38 foot monohull in 2014, sailed across the Atlantic twice, cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe, before buying a brand new 45 ft catamaran!
We hope you enjoy what we do. Please subscribe, like and share.
