Ep. 70 After losing our engine to a fire and the use of our main sail, we decided to contact the Coast Guard to give them our coordinates just in case. The weather outlook wasn't great and winds were due to die completely for a few days. While we had enough provisions to last a while, we weren't taking any chances.
This episode follows our previous ones when we crewed on a monohull on a delivery from Charleston SC to Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, we had some major hiccups along the way and Puerto Rico never came to be. It was not time to figure out whether we were heading towards the Bahamas or South Florida... and Mother Nature would make that decision for us....
If you're new to our channel, we are Donovan and Claudine... oh and Zoë, our blind Malti-Shit. We both turned 50 years old and looked at each other like, "What are we doing?" We worked our tails off handling claims for people who had suffered tremendous losses due to Mother Nature for 17+and years and we were exhausted.
In 2020, we went on a sail with one of our friends in HIlton Head, SC and fell in love. While we both had been sailing many times in our earlier life, we didn't actually get bitten by the bug until that day. Within a month, we had purchased a used 1981 Catalina 22 and were knee deep in it's refit.
We called her Ourper Diem, which was a play on words for Our Per Diem, which is what we saved up from working many deployments to pay for her.
We took some intensive ASA classes and sailed her for 2 years as we planned and executed this new chapter of our lives.
Fast forward to October 2022 and are now the proud owners of a 2019 Fountaine Pajot Catamaran and currently live in Turkey. Our plan is to sail around the Mediterranean for the next few years and then we will decide where to go from there.
We are pretty new at this whole Youtube thing and have no experience with filming, editing and publishing videos, but now on episode 70, we hope you see some improvement. Thanks for stopping by and giving us a chance.
