Indian Ocean Crossing Update – Sailing Nandji’s Epic Journey
Sailing Nandji, known for their adventurous journey, is set to cross the Indian Ocean this year, heading towards South Africa. With a few updates in hand and preparation on the way, let’s take a deeper look at their upcoming voyage.
The Plan of Departure
As per the recent video update, they plan to depart in just a couple of weeks. They are currently positioned in Indonesia, looking to sail down 600 nautical miles to Padang, marking their departure port from where they will cross over to Rodrigues Mius and Reunion. There’s no real rush as they have plenty of time for this mammoth task.
Preparation: A Balance Between Safety, Money, and Time
In the past few months, Sailing Nandji has been preparing their boat, making sure there are backups for almost every essential component on board. This has taken a toll on their mental space with stress building up while managing safety, money, and time – all critical factors in sailing.
The Decision to Sail Without Tula
Sailing Nandji also discussed their plan to get pregnant as they start this journey. Considering the risks of undertaking such an adventure in early pregnancy, they decided that Tula would fly off with the family for a 2-week vacation in Sri Lanka before joining Yoshi on future passages.
Introducing The Crew
To fill up Yoshi’s void during this voyage, he has organized three experienced surfers who also happen to be keen sailors. This is indeed an exciting finale to their time sailing through Indonesia as the crew aims at chasing some great waves along the journey.
Choosing June for Departure
A critical decision made by Nandji was the delay of departure from May, pushing it into early June due to recent changes in cyclone activity and their possible influence on sailing routes across the Indian Ocean.
The Loss of The Drone
In a bid to capture incredible footage from up high using their new drone, Yoshi and Tula encountered an unforeseen situation. They lost the brand new device during its sixth flight when it was accidentally dropped into the ocean after taking off in an unauthorized zone.
Final Preparation Before Departure
In order to ensure they’re as ready as can be, Sailing Nandji has listed a few more preparations and equipment installations that need attention. These include modifying solar panels, fixing fresh water leaks, installing B pumps and fans for the crew.
Upcoming Excitement
The viewers of the channel are set to be thrilled with live updates and tracking features enabled on their journey across 2700 nautical miles to Mauis, thanks to various new gadgets on board such as the SP St motor, Tracker, and G satellite phone.
A Lasting Goodbye
The update wraps up with emotions of happiness tinged with a hint of sadness. Sailing Nandji expresses how much they’ll miss each other during their separate phases but are also super excited for the future that awaits them on this adventurous journey.
