2025-08-24, S6, e7. The North Sea is beautiful, but she’s also a strict teacher. With a forecast of 24+ knots heading my way, I had to make a choice: stay pinned down or find a window to Dover.
In this episode of ‘Search for the Sun’, I pull up the anchor at 6:00 AM on the River Orwell for a 60-nautical mile journey. Along the way, I have to navigate through the busy Thames Estuary, reset my internal compass, and dodge some of the largest commercial vessels I’ve seen in a long time.
It’s not just about the miles; it’s about the shift in perspective when the tide turns 180 degrees and you realize home is wherever the Lady Liselot is anchored. Stick around for a nostalgic story about my first time in Dover back in 1997—things have certainly changed since the days of the hovercrafts!
In this video:
0:00 – The 6 AM wake-up call
2:22 – Leaving the River Orwell
4:44 – Getting stuck in the mud?
9:03 – Meeting the Giants: Leonardo Da Vinci & Nordstream
15:42 – The White Cliffs of Dover
19:11 – Coffee time & Reflection
