Sailing Maalie’s English Channel Crossing Adventure

Embarking on an unforgettable journey across one of the most iconic waterways in the world, Sailing Maalie set sail from their pool Harbour towards the Alder Spanish of the English Channel. With a cold and rainy morning, they departed at 2:30 AM on Sunday with just enough time to embrace the sunshine that would soon follow. The forecast was looking favorable for a 55-mile trip to Alder spicy with winds of 20 knots. The Navigational Challenges of the English Channel The first leg of their journey brought them past the White Cliffs, marking the start of their French cruise. The English Channel is known to be the busiest shipping channel in the world, making AIS and proper navigation equipment essential. Pleased to find friendly communication with passing ships, Sailing Maalie successfully navigated through the transport separation scheme (TSS) while still maintaining a healthy 6.3 knot average speed. The Adventure Continues – Dolphins and Windy Weather Incredible wildlife encounters continued throughout the journey as white dolphins joined them in the TSS, coming close to their vessel. The wind picked up speed with a thrilling 20-knot gust providing a great surfing experience on some massive waves. Arrival at Alder – Bray Harbormaster’s Experiences After an exhilarating 10-hour trip, averaging a respectable 5.5 knots, they safely anchored in Bray Harbor, located in the most northern part of Alder Spanish and just north of France. The crew had stocked up on supplies for their journey out into the wild and reveled in a well-deserved G&T with solar-powered ice provided by friends L and Alex. A great sense of accomplishment filled the air as they reflected on a thrilling passage across this historic body of water. Embark on Your Own Adventure The team at Sailing Maalie encourages everyone to consider tackling an adventure through the English Channel, taking note from their incredible experience and tips. So prepare your vessel, stock up on supplies, and head out for a sailing expedition that you will remember for years to come.
