Six months into establishing their land home base, Elayna Carausu and Riley Whitelum of Sailing La Vagabonde face the realities of carving out 26 hectares of mountain jungle. The couple had already placed their bid and won the parcel before walking the grounds and discovering an unmapped waterfall view that had eluded even their real estate agent, prompting disbelief: “Are you kidding me?”
With a newly cleared driveway cut into the slope and a starter food forest planted, Elayna balances civil works ashore with preparations to welcome a second pet alongside Mrs. Pebbles.
Before reuniting with Riley, Elayna resolved an unfinished mission on the outer island. During an earlier visit, she had met local musicians whose string band had fallen silent after all their gear had succumbed to rust. Having purchased replacements, she arrived without contact numbers for band members Bruno, Timmy, and Tom Tom. A local resident met on the beach stepped in to guide the team and helped carry the instruments through the village paths.
Elayna presented the cargo directly to the musicians: “We wanted to buy some instruments so you can have your string band again.” The haul included a keyboard, a new ukulele, and a large bongo drum. As neighboring families gathered, the musicians offered gifts and a blessing before breaking into an impromptu musical performance.
The separation ended when Riley completed his 20 days away. Traveling out to La Vagabonde marked Elayna’s first return to the multihull after 6 months away from sailing. As she approached across the water, Riley’s appearance caused immediate disorientation: he had shaved his trademark moustache. Cameraman Lucas cut the camera feed right as Elayna stepped aboard to confront the clean-shaven skipper.
Following the reunion, the family took 2 weeks off filming to adjust to homestead life and introduce a second canine companion: “Meet Albert Camus, everyone.” As Riley inspected the puppy’s build, he noted the dog’s frame: “These paws are gigantic. He’s going to be a big, big dog.” With the new arrival settled alongside Mrs. Pebbles, the crew turned back toward groundwork on their mountain property.
