Welcome back to Sailing Gypsy, where we’re cruising north of the Zuma Keys, enjoying one of the absolute most beautiful anchorages in the entire island chain.
While one of us is admiring underwater at a new level, the other is manning the helm, as I’m the captain for the day. We’re excited to share some spectacular sights with you from exploring intricate caves and tunnels to entrusting Travis with a very important task.
Exploring Calm Waters
We’re flying out of here at 4.2 knots, and I’m pretty sure the current’s just pushing us out because there’s nothing for wind, this is super calm. We haven’t had an out to the sound this calm while we’re not in that little bit of water up there, but you can still see it’s just so much calmer than other days we’ve had.
Thunderball Grotto
The Thunderball Grotto gained fame after being featured in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball and was then featured again in the 1983 film Never Say Never Again. The grotto is renowned for its underwater caves and vibrant marine life, with a plethora of things to explore, including its intricate network of tunnels and underwater scenery.
Travis’ Daring Dive
We have it all to ourselves, which is why I wanted to come. There’s so much to see with the shallowest and most vibrant blue hues coupled with powder white sand bars. We even found a spot where we can anchor right by The Sandbar at low tide.
Safety First
While Travis was diving on the anchor, he immediately jumped up because he saw a huge barracuda that when we were pulling into anchor it was about half the length of the dinghy. Probably looks even bigger underwater.
Captain for the Day
As the captain for the day, I’m in charge of steering us through these beautiful waters and finding the best anchorages to explore. Our goal is to continue sailing north and make a couple of extra stops along the way.
Breakfast on Board
For breakfast this morning, we’re having two things that are kind of new to us. I made yogurt, which actually came out pretty good, and we also have an oatmeal bake with a layer of bananas, pears, and oats covered in an egg-milk mixture.
The Big Cut
In this episode, we decided to take on a new challenge – cutting each other’s hair! I put a lot of effort into giving Stephanie a new hairstyle, and while it was my first time cutting a girl’s hair, I think it turned out well.
The Next Adventure
As we continue our journey sailing north, we’re excited to explore new waters and find even more amazing anchorages. From exploring caves and snorkeling with marine life to trying out new recipes on board, stay tuned for more adventures from Sailing Gypsy!
