Refinishing Our Anchor + DIY Lightning Protection | Sailing Intermission
In this episode of Sailing Intermission, we take on a few important boat projects while living aboard our sailboat Isabella. First up: restoring our 66 lb CQR anchor! Under Karen’s capable guidance, we drop it into the dinghy, sand off the rust, and apply a cold zinc coating. Getting it back aboard wasn’t easy, but we made it happen—with a bit of teamwork and muscle.
We also revisit our DIY lightning protection system—yes, the one made from car jumper cables connecting the rigging to the ocean. Is it effective? We’re not totally sure, but we’re doing what we can to protect our mast and electronics in case of a strike.
Out on deck, it was time to replace our tired herb garden. We replant fresh basil and throw in some dill too. Gotta keep the boat meals flavorful!
As always, there’s plenty of fun, dancing, and a bit of cheeky humor. Karen narrates this episode. Was shee naked? Steve is a fan of her new green skirt 🌿💃
