In this video episode, we cover two exciting updates to our sailboat that enhance both functionality and relaxation on our boating adventures. First, we discuss upgrading our motor mount setup for effortless outboard installation and maintenance. Additionally, we share insights into fixing a damaged davit we encountered recently.
New Motor Mount Installation
To make the process of mounting our outboard motor easier, we have installed a new motor mount with an extension and additional brace. This upgrade will greatly facilitate the setup process on our sailboat. We believe that these changes to our boat’s mechanical features can significantly enhance efficiency during outings.
Davit Replacement
Apart from the motor mount update, we also delve into the process of fixing our davit. Two stainless steel pop rivets securing a support brace to the transom broke. Here’s another view showing two of the popped rivets protruding. Moreover, one nut on the pulley-hoisting bracket was loose, and after using a liquid wrench, we managed to tighten it with long hemostat.
Boat Life Update
In the past, we were sailing our beloved Catalina 42; however, life has changed significantly since we embraced the boat life and had to sell our house. With Isabella in tow, this upgrade journey is essential for maintaining our lifestyle aboard.
Snorkeling Beach Day
We’ve found a serene spot to indulge in snorkeling amidst a lovely day. As Karen points out, the rocky bottom of the beach isn’t the most comfortable surface for bare feet but donning some sandals resolved that issue.

This episode has been a delightful dive into not only the updates and maintenance we’re doing to our sailboat but also a day well spent on an enjoyable beach. Our adventure is a reflection of embracing life’s changes and cherishing every moment together, surrounded by the sea and its fascinating creatures.

We always enjoy the wildlife here. Had to fix a davit brace. It came loose because the stainless steel rivets broke. Added a strarboard spacer, re riveted with a new 13" easier to use gun. Went snorkeling and saw lots of fishes. Karen wore her yellow bikini but has decided to order a new one. The water is finally warming up.
Went to the beach and goofed around and of course had to dance.

Sailing Intermission
Featuring the sailboat Isabella, a Super Mikado 56 made by the French shipyard CNSO. Sailing, partying, dancing, cooking, and sometimes pushing the limits. This sailboat had been neglected for some time when she was purchased. Lots of cleaning, sanding, refinishing, new lines, refrigerator, pumps, water heater parts, whole boat water filters, bow thruster, lighting, fuel filters, instruments, air conditioning, etc.... Some of the fun with refitting a sailboat is to be able to do economical but quality improvements. Elbow grease saves a lot of money, watching for sales, knowing when substitutions can be made that will last, and of course enjoying the final product. We sail, fish (haha), dance, fly the drone, sometimes wear bikinis, DIY, ride the motorcycle, listen to great music, and enjoy life. Older sailors don't have a clew when to quit; they just keep lubing their winches.
