The New Normal | Learning the ropes of boat life

Things will never be the same again. You can’t just pop out for a carton of milk or quick bite with friend. Things need to planned out, weather checked, anchor secured and dinghy deployed.

We have had the pleasure of being at marinas for the last couple of months while we prepared for our big trip south to the Bahamas. This meant for the most part having our boat tied up and secured, and having a vehicle of some sort for all of our provisioning needs. Now, our Highfield dinghy is our car and we need to make sure that our Honu is safe and secure before we leave for extended periods of time.

This is a very stressful thing. There are so many factors that can affect the likelihood that your floating home will be right where you left it a couple of hours later. It’s not just set the anchor and take off. We need to check the weather, wind, currents, and tides. This is not for the big boat but for traveling distances in the dinghy. And if that wasn’t stressful enough now, we need to locate the dinghy dock where we can safely leave our dinghy and hope that it will still be there when we get back with all of our items.
We know that this is all part of the adventure and there is something exciting about the whole thing but your nerves are always a bit on when these things go out of your site line and you have to hope that you did all the right things. As we do this more it will get easier just like all things on the boat. But for now we worry a bit too much, and I’m ok with that.

Thank you for being here, for watching and supporting our channel. We love sharing our adventures and connecting with you. It’s the best! We wouldn’t want it any other way.
