Squat Down & Hold Your Breath | Bowing Down to the Bridges of the ICW
November 18, 2022 by Sailing Honu Time | Language: EN Play Time: 00:23:39 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

Squat down and hold your breath!
I don’t know if we have mentioned it before but Honu is a big girl for the ICW. We hit the max in both directions. Our mast is 63.5Ft and our keel is 6.5Ft. The majority of the fixed bridge heights are 65ft at high tide, the depth of the channel is 8-10ft at low tide, and the currents were the icing on the cake. So timing was everything on this trip.
We knew this going into it. However, we had no idea how much stress it was going to be going under every single bridge and it never decreases regardless how many bridges you go under or their height.
But this was our only choice. We are new to this boat and not prepared mentally or practically to go out into the ocean for an overnight passage. We know our limits. We know when we can stretch them and when we need to take a step back to do a bit more building before can we grow. These are all the things we are learning while living on our sailboat.
Besides all the bridge stress the ICW has provided us with some beautiful memories so far. It is so super neat to see the prospective form the water way looking in instead of looking out.
