In this episode, Sailing Honu Time’s Chris and Tamar face multiple obstacles during their time in Lorient as they try to fix their non-functional AIS (Automatic Identification System) and find a place for lunch.
Upon arriving in Lorient, Chris and Tamar quickly realize that the local hospitality leaves much to be desired. They find themselves unwelcome at three different restaurants during their lunch hunt, with one restaurant owner throwing his hands up in frustration after they ask for simple food and drink.
Determined to fix their AIS, the couple finally gets a positive result. Their head unit works, and they learn that the issue lies in the GPS puck. With hopes of finding a solution at the electronics store in Lorient, Chris and Tamar are eager for some good news.
The electronics expert tells the couple that their GPS puck has gone bad, which is unusual considering it’s less than a year old. With no solution for now, they bring it back the following day, only to discover that all they need is a simple barrel connector fix, and their AIS starts working again.
After being denied good service everywhere else, the couple finds a gem in Lorient at Mango Bay. Here they enjoy delicious food, friendly service, and even make new friends along the way.
Feeling refreshed after a delicious meal at Mango Bay, Chris and Tamar set off on another daring sailing adventure. As they sail across the bay towards their new Anchorage, they find themselves in a scary situation with another boat. The other boat’s reckless behavior forces Sailing Honu Time to make an emergency turn, flipping their sails. Fortunately, everyone comes out unscathed from this encounter.
This terrifying moment turns into a learning opportunity for the couple. Chris and Tamar learn that sometimes, regardless of sailing rules, evasive maneuvers are necessary to avoid a collision. While hoping never to cross paths with the reckless boater again, they manage to reach their destination safely.
In this episode, Sailing Honu Time demonstrates resilience in the face of adversity. They overcome challenges with a positive attitude, resulting in fixing their AIS issue with minimal costs. While Lorient didn’t offer the warm hospitality they expected, Mango Bay’s delicious meal and friendly service made it all worth it.
The main takeaway from this episode is that setbacks are a natural part of any journey. With persistence, determination, and faith in one another’s abilities, Sailing Honu Time navigates through rough waters to reach smooth sailing once again.
To Chris and Tamar, these moments are not just stories but a chance to share insights, discuss their experiences, and educate others about sailing. This approach has earned them respect from the boating community, attracting followers worldwide.
When you travel to as many different countries as we have over the last couple of years you run into some that are amazing and some that you just know; you are really not welcome here.
Martinique has so many wonderful things to offer. Whether it’s in the boating community, rich culture or amazing food (When you can get it). But the one thing we are really struggling with is the language barrier. We try our very best to speak the language of the country we are in. I’m not saying we are fluent, but we really try. For the most part we all communicate quite well. Until we Don’t…
