We were out for our morning sail when we saw this cruise ship coming in first thing this morning. It was actually a sailing cruise ship and it was super neat to see. This is the second one that we’ve seen in the last couple of days but it was still really cool.
We did a little bit of research on these cruise ships and found out that there are actually two or three different sizes available. This one was around 450 ft long and it looked really impressive when it pulled in. We were definitely intrigued by this new addition to the sailing scene.
A short ferry ride from our current location on Bequia took us to the mainland of St Vincent and the capital city of Kingston. We were excited about this new adventure since it offered a chance to be ‘land tourists’ for the day. The cost was 25 EC dollars each for the ferry ride, which we thought was a cool idea.
Kingston is supposed to have some really cool historical churches and just a bustling city feel compared to all the smaller towns and hamlets that we’ve visited in the Grenadines. So off we went to explore this new part of St Vincent and The Grenadines!
Our first stop was Chateau Bay in the north end of Bequia, which is said to be one of the prettiest anchoring spots in all the Grenadines. As we arrived at this breathtaking location, we were completely blown away by the natural beauty that surrounded us.
According to Kim Roy, who controls the anchorage area, it’s usually completely calm and peaceful, but unfortunately for us, it was quite windy and choppy with a storm watch in effect. Despite this, we still marveled at how clear and pristine everything looked.
The sailing community brings together a diverse group of people who often become lifelong friends in just a short amount of time. Our experiences traveling from one location to another have allowed us to make so many incredible connections and meet some amazing individuals along the way.
Somewhere between our shared adventures, we find ourselves reconnecting with these wonderful people when we eventually sail into different anchorages or marinas. As much as it’s hard to say goodbye, there is always a special joy in revisiting old friends in new places.
In addition to the amazing sailing experiences we’ve had thus far on this adventure, we always look for unique and interesting ways to explore each new island that we visit.
For example, while walking through Kingston, St Vincent’s capital city, we stumbled upon a botanical garden featuring a Cannonball Tree. As you can imagine, it was quite the sight to see!
After all this time sailing around the Bahamas and Caribbean we still find ourselves awe struck by the beauty of these islands and the unforgettable memories and connections we make along the way.
