After a quick stop in the Caicos Marina and Shipyard, Gargoyle departs through the tight entrance and clears the sandbank with eight inches to spare. Now we are off to explore French Cay, once the hideout of French pirate L’Olonnais. The cay is now a bird sanctuary, and we are quickly swarmed by its curious inhabitants in a scene reminiscent of a Hitchcock film. After braving the bird stank, we settle in for what was expected to be a quiet night, only to be awoken by loud sirens not once but twice! This has never happened to us in nearly 15,000nm of sailing.
