How a Private Island Works! - Spanish Cay

We leave Green Turtle Cay behind in our 2001 Searay 340 and sail up the Abacos Island chain to the private island, Spanish Cay. There we get a little hot tub time on a yacht before getting a complete tour of Spanish Cay by the owners. Its a really interesting place with a nice bar/restaurant, lots of accomodations, they make their own power and water, and even have their own private airstrip! Sailing Doodles Explores Spanish Cay

After spending some time at Green Turtle Key, Sailing Doodles headed north along the Abaco Islands chain and arrived at a new destination for them – Spanish Cay. As usual, the crew was excited to discover what this private island had to offer.

Unwind on the Beach at Spanish Cay

Upon their arrival at Spanish Cay, Sailing Doodles made a stop at the fuel dock to refuel before making their way to the docks. With engines in tow and a keen eye for exploration, the crew checked into their slip and were front-row on the dock, just in time to enjoy some of the island’s finest views.

A Relaxing Day at Spanish Cay

The day started with a relaxed vibe, as there wasn’t much going on at Spanish Cay. With only one other boat around, it was clear that this island had its fair share of quiet and tranquil moments. Although the owners were absent, the crew found ways to have their own fun on the yacht.

Island Owners Show Sailing Doodles Around

However, what truly made this trip special was the tour given by the owners of Spanish Cay. The crew marveled at all that the island had to offer. Their bar and restaurant looked inviting, boasting a full-service bar with pool tables and shuffleboard, while their fully-stocked market provided all necessary supplies.

Luxurious Accommodations on Spanish Cay

But the highlight of the tour was yet to come. Sailing Doodles learned that there are accommodations for rent in the form of one to four-bedroom condos, as well as beachfront properties a short drive away.

The Island’s Technical Infrastructure

The tour continued on with an impressive visit to the generator house, home to three state-of-the-art diesel generators that power the entire island. To top it off, Spanish Cay boasts a private 5,000 ft airstrip.

Desalination Plant on Spanish Cay

A visit to the desalination plant proved just how self-sufficient this private island is. Capable of producing 25,000 gallons of water per day with their advanced filtration system, they also store a substantial amount of fresh water on site.

The Island’s Final Stop – The House

The last place Sailing Doodles needed to see before wrapping up their island tour was the house for rent. Set on the beach, it provided an idyllic getaway for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat.

Reflecting on Their Time at Spanish Cay

Having experienced the luxury of Spanish Cay, Sailing Doodles were eager to share their experience with their audience. From the bar and restaurant to the incredible amenities that come with owning a private island, this tour certainly gave viewers a unique glimpse into what it’s like to spend time on an exclusive paradise.
