SDA132 Storm Prep on a Sailing Catamaran

Sailing Dark Angel ventures to beautiful Pipe Creek Exumas, but must prepare their sailing catamaran for an incoming storm. They explore anchoring techniques, perform engine tests, and discuss essential boat prep strategies while bracing for the upcoming winds.

Join Sailing Dark Angel as they begin their exploration of the stunning Pipe Creek Exumas before gearing up to face the challenges that come with storm preparation. As they navigate this paradise, they uncover essential tips and techniques in preparing a sailing catamaran for impending high winds.

Anchoring Up for Adventure

While the sun shone brightly down on Pipe Creek, the team at Sailing Dark Angel took advantage of the calm conditions to prepare their boat. With shallow waters and pristine beaches all around, they knew it was essential to find a well-protected spot to anchor.

The Perfect Spot

They discovered a secluded corner of the island that provided optimal protection from any impending bad weather. With shallow waters offering security on all sides, Sailing Dark Angel set their anchor and secured their catamaran against the potential high winds and storms.

Storm Preparation Begins

Knowing a big blow was coming their way, they took the opportunity to test and prepare both of their engines. Despite experiencing some issues with one battery, the team ensured everything was in working order, allowing them the peace of mind that comes from being fully prepared.

Boat Prep: Ready for Anything

Sailing Dark Angel did everything they could to ensure their catamaran was ready to face the oncoming storms. From bringing in anything that could potentially blow away to securing important boat components, they meticulously checked and rechecked each aspect of their vessel.

Final Preparations

Before the storm hit, they wrapped lines around the sails, checked anchor lines, and secured loose items throughout the boat. They made sure to leave a crew member on board to watch over the catamaran through the night, keeping an eye on conditions and ensuring they remained safely anchored.

Storm Night

As predicted, the winds increased throughout the evening, with gusts reaching over 25 knots. Sailing Dark Angel stayed vigilant all night long, maintaining anchor watch to ensure their boat remained firmly anchored in place.

Calm After the Storm

In the calm after the storm, Sailing Dark Angel assessed any damage and made necessary repairs. Although they had experienced challenges with securing items during the squall, their catamaran remained undamaged and in perfect condition.

Storm Prep Lessons Learned

Sailing Dark Angel learned valuable lessons from this adventure about anchoring techniques, engine readiness, and thorough boat preparation. Their experiences helped solidify their storm-preparation strategy for future excursions.
