Day 263 of renovating our Sailing Living Quarter has been dedicated to putting prop speed onto Kel Patu. This task marks one of our final maintenance projects, essential in getting her ready for water.

SBO Prop Speed Application – Final Touches

The Sailing Catalpa crew have thoroughly enjoyed having prop speed on our previous sailboat and knew we wanted to replicate the results on Kel Patu. Following Dad’s advice, ‘the art of decoration is preparation’, we begin with a crucial cleaning phase.

Clean Shaft & Propeller

The first step to successfully applying prop speed is making sure that both the shaft and prop are clean. This involves thoroughly scrubbing these vital components to remove any buildup or grime, providing a perfect base for the application.

Prop Speed Application Process

After the shaft and prop are squeaky clean, it’s time to apply rolled on two easy coats of yellow prop speed. Once these initial layers are dried and cured, we follow up with a layer of clear varnish she stuff, sealing our work in place.
