Four years ago we moved from England to California not knowing a thing about sailing. In September 2019 we sailed our 36 foot boat under the Golden Gate Bridge and turned left, leaving the San Francisco Bay behind but taking our cosy home with us. For us, this is the journey of a lifetime. We intend to visit some of the world's most beautiful and unspoiled cruising grounds. We'd like to share our trials and tribulations with you here, where we hope to bring you an authentic snapshot of our new life afloat!

In this episode we check out the Pacific cruiser’s paradise of Tenacatita, Mexico! We lifted the hook from next door bay The Aquarium, where we’d spent a week in isolation as the only boat in the bay, beginning to wonder whether anyone else was in town. Then, when we sailed a few miles around the corner and the main anchorage of Tenacatita came into view, the First Mate’s eyes lit up as he spied almost 20 boats and a beachfront palapa bar nestled under the palm trees.
We spent a wonderful week in this bay before moving on to stock up at La Manzanilla – a pretty beachside town on the other side of the bay – complete with its own crocodile sanctuary – before sailing off toward the next destination.
Of course, a week in paradise wouldn’t be complete without a boat problem or two… this week it was the alternator’s turn to act up. With the mounting bracket that holds it to the engine coming loose, we had to sail off the hook as much as possible to avoid running the engine. Good practice for our sailing skills but a bit stressful for the crew!
