We Weren't Ready to Leave Yet | Life in the Marquesas

After returning to Taiohae Bay on Nuku Hiva, we thought we'd only be staying a few more days before continuing west toward the Tuamotus Islands.
The route was planned. The boat was nearly ready. All we needed was the right weather window.
What started as an unexpected delay quickly turned into one of our favorite weeks in the Marquesas. From preparing Big Lost for the next passage, to swimming with manta rays, reconnecting with friends, and experiencing local Marquesan culture, this extra time reminded us that not every delay is a setback.
Sometimes the best parts of the journey are the ones you never planned for.

⛵ Thanks for following our family's adventure as we sail around the world aboard our catamaran Big Lost.

Most People Think We’re Crazy… But We’d Do It Again

Most people think we're crazy. We sold the house, left the routine behind, and crossed the Pacific Ocean with our kids. It hasn't always been easy. There have been setbacks, repairs, long passages, and plenty of uncertainty. But there have also been moment...

The View Isn’t The Reason We Crossed the Pacific

Most people think we crossed the Pacific for the turquoise water, remote islands, and incredible anchorages. And while those things are amazing, they're not the reason we made this journey. The real reward has been the people we've met, the experiences we'...
