The windlass that is currently installed on our boat is wrong in many ways.
First of all, it’s a vertical windlass, but a horizontal windlass is what was really needed.
Secondly, it’s location puts the motor obtrusively in the middle of the forward cabin.
Third, the chain dumps directly into the sleeping area of the vberth.
The bottom line is that it’s just wrong, wrong, wrong and it’s up to us to make it right.
The windlass has to be removed, the giant holes in the deck have to be repaired with fiberglass and epoxy, and we have to install a more appropriate windlass in a more logical location.
Ah – the joys of remedying the mind-boggling decisions of previous owners is one of the most interesting parts of owning an old cruising sailboat.
