George Town (aka Chicken Town) was our last stop in the Bahamas.
From our exquisite afternoon anchored behind Boysie Cay, we motored 10nm SE to Emerald Bay Marina to refuel. We were tempted to have a day pass in the adjacent Sandals Resort but decided to stick to our plan for once.
So we continued onto George Town, 15nm further SE, and anchored in the lee of Stocking Island among hundreds for other American and Canadian yachts that had all reached, and mostly remained, in “Chicken Town” (so called because lots of cruisers dare not go any further south!). We found the cruiser community here to be very strong and well-coordinated. Clearly, many spent the whole season here and everyone seemed to know each other.
We relaxed for a week, waiting on weather for our passage south from Bahamas and for the food shops to be resupplied with fresh produce. It was a relaxing break having been on the move continuously for several weeks now. Also a little sad, because this marked the end of our planned 5 days in the Bahamas, which ended up being 55 days! 16-21 Feb 2020
