This Part 6 is mostly about servicing the rudder and reinstallation.
– Addressing severe corrosion on the bearing housing
– Modifications to how the housing is secured into the hull
– Dressing the rudder stock thread
– New seals added and the mains JP3 bearing rebuilt and installed back into the boat
– Lifting the rudder back in place
– Refilling the hole in the yard …. (what hole?)
Best if part 5 is watched before this episode.
This extensive boat maintenance took place due to Covid pandemic which on a negative note caused us to defer our next sailing adventure to autumn 2021, but on a positive note gave us this opportunity to get Cloudy Bay’s systems in top shape before we cruise more remote parts of the world.
