Sailing to the joint Dutch-French island of St. Maarten (St. Martin) where we stayed for 1 month, doing maintenance, attending a multihull regatta, exploring and trying kite-foiling.
After our short stay in St. Barts, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) set sail to St. Maarten. First anchoring in Simpson Bay then moving into the inner lagoon for perfect shelter, easy access to shore and all the marine services that St. Maarten is famous for. While Oana took a 3-week break and flew back home to visit family, Glen did a lot of maintenance, including fixing the vang and gooseneck at FKG Rigging, having the fridges vacuumed, canvas work, adding stowage to the bilge and lots more. In between jobs there was some exciting racing on a 60ft Rapido trimaran in the St. Maarten multihull regatta. Later, taking Cloudy for a test sail, we passed several famous super yachts: The A, Obramavich’s Eclipse, David Getta’s Rising Sun and Steve Jobs’ Venus. Cloudy Bay was then re-anchored on the French side of the island in Marigot Bay. On Oana’s return we toured the island in our usual fashion, but in general found it very run down and uninspiring, especially the French side, which still looked like the hurricane hit it just yesterday. Finally, before we departed, we took the ferry over to the island of Saba … but that’s another video. 28 January – 26 February 2019
