An exhilarating sail from Montserrat brings us to St. Kitts for New Year celebrations and exploring.
s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) leaves Montserrat, the island with the active volcano, and sails to St.Kitts & Nevis. We depart Little Bay in Montserrat with strong trade winds on our beam, up to 25knots, and we take it easy with reefed main and genoa. After passing the Antiguan island of Redonda, a bare rock sitting 300m out of the sea, the wind further strengthens, and we are soon heavily reefed as it gusts to well over 30kts. We anchor behind Nevis for the night then head to St.Kitts where we suspect New Year Eve activity will be more lively.
After checking in at the main town of Basseterre on St.Kitts we anchor for 8 days in the calm waters in the south of the island next to Salt Plage beach bar, near the newly constructed Christophe Harbor. This is where we have a good night out to bring in the new year of 2019.
We have a rental car for 3 days to thoroughly explore the sites and hotels on this island. In the north we visit the famous Brimstone Hill Fortress and Arthur’s beach bar.
In the south, where the nicest beaches are, we visit The Pavilion, Turtle Beach, Cockleshell Beach and all its beach bars from Reggae Beach to the recently open Park Hyatt Hotel. Then in the middle the Marriott Hotel and the funky beach bars in South Frigate Bay, the Shipwreck bar being the best.
After a pampering day at the Park Hyatt we depart St.Kitts for Nevis. 30 Dec 2018 – 8 Jan 2019
