Annual maintenance prior to heading back to Caribbean. Changing skin fittings, new dinghy, adding vinyl stripes, changing hoses and faucets… and much much more.
Early October, following our 4 months break from the boat, we travelled from our home in Europe back to Cloudy Bay in the Chesapeake. Before setting off southwards we had quite a list of maintenance and upgrades to do, given we may not get another good chance before New Zealand.
The list included vinyl covering the blue strips, changing thru-hulls and hoses, bottoms painting, propeller & bow thruster service and rebuilding the hydraulic sail furling motors. A lot of the tasks were buying more spare parts, a Sailrite sewing machine and of course the usual unexpected purchases like a new dinghy and a replacement PC.
Likewise, on the maintenance there were several unplanned things like changing the galley faucet, which became a monumental task for something so simple. And finally, food stocking up for our journey to Panama.
It ended up taking us 6 very full weeks before we finally bid farewell to our Herrington friends, just as winter weather arrived. 11 Oct – 20 Nov 2019
