The current Greece / Turkey border crisis reminds me of our encounter recently at the Greece Turkey sea border off the coast of Kos. Not exactly ‘Greece under attack’ as some media reports have been saying but it demonstrates how it’s not just about rubber dinghies full of immigrants or refugees. This jetskier easily evaded the Hellenic Coast Guard high speed boarder patrols, dropped off a passenger on Kos and returned to Turkish waters in the space of about 20 minutes! Now we’re in Spain the border crisis feel just as bad with near daily Maydays on our VHF from migrant boats entering Spanish waters from Morocco.
