Our Gelcoat STILL Doesn't Match!! (MJ Sailing - Ep 306)

It turns out, the third time is NOT a charm. After sending in gelcoat samples to be matched THRICE now, we still can’t seem to spray on new gelcoat, which will match our existing gelcoat.

Right after spraying, we had to leave our boat for a week, and when we returned, Matt did a light sanding, just to see if the color matched. Unfortunately, we’re still coming out darker than the factory gelcoat which we’re trying to blend into. A new sample has now been sent out to another company, but by the time we’re able to get another batch in our hands, it will most likely be too cold to spray.

So Matt moves indoors to work on the bilge in our master head. We have two thru hulls to place in, one for the watermaker and one for the holding tank. While drilling through the hull though, we hit the foam form underneath which supports our boat.

An unexpected new project popped up of having to raise the hull, move our form aft, and then bring the boat back down while still keeping it level. Thankfully, we still had Connor with us for that annoying project.

With cabinets and bilges getting closer to completion though, we’re that much closer to being able to install systems!!
