KATABATIC WINDS & OVERHEATING HYDRAULICS! 💨 (Plus a huge Boating FIRST!)
Welcome back aboard Noeta! We are Pat, Alexa, and Gilligan (our catnip-loving boat cat), living and traveling full-time on our 57 ft Nordhavn. We are currently making our way down Mexico’s stunning Baja Peninsula, tracking south toward the mainland and Puerto Vallarta.
This week, the journey threw a little bit of everything at us. We start by exploring and mapping out some incredible new anchorages, but paradise quickly turns intense. We find ourselves in katabatic winds—violent, cold downslope winds that will test any anchor setup.
To create more havoc, while dealing with the weather, our windlass hydraulics begin overheating, forcing us to troubleshoot a critical system under pressure.
But it wasn't all stress! We had a fortunate, chance encounter with an award-winning filmmaker on the water, get a lobster feast delivered to our boat, and we celebrated an exciting FIRST in our 8 years of boating in Mexico.
