The reality of living aboard a sailboat and refitting it at the same time is that you develop a condition known as Multiple Project Disorder. Symptoms include, but are not limited to:
-Messy boat
-Hot flashes
-Frantic list making
-Losing your train of thought
-Insomnia
-Extreme restlessness
-Body aches
-Losing your train of thought
-Starting too many projects and not finishing them in time
-Unrealistic optimism about the time it’ll take to complete projects
-The inability to think about anything other than boat projects
-An impending sense of doom
Our end goal for this boat is to be completely off the grid. Sure, going completely electric will be better for the environment, and that’s a plus, but that’s not the biggest reason we’re doing this. We’re doing this because we love simplicity, and an electric motor is the simplest and purest form of auxiliary propulsion for a sailboat in our minds. Getting rid of the need to fill diesel jerry cans, the need to constantly service and maintain the engine, and the need to constantly search for more propane for your stove, is the real reason.
I’m not going to sit here and tell you that electric is better for everyone, because it’s certainly not. But for us, going electric was a no-brainer.
More information about our electric sailboat build coming shortly. Stay tuned!
