What’s next for international Hobie Cat racing?
At the International Hobie 16 Championships in Ocean Springs, I caught up with Rich McVeigh, President of the International Hobie Cat Class Association, to find out what sailors can look forward to in 2027.
We talk about the upcoming World Championships in Costa Brava, Spain, including a new combined event featuring the Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 World Championships, as well as the Dragoons.
For the first time, the Hobie 16 Worlds are also planned as a bring-your-own-boat event, with shipping options being developed and a limited number of charter boats expected to be available.
And there's another interesting possibility for competitors — the schedule means sailors could potentially compete in both the Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 Worlds.
Rich explains the thinking behind the new format, how competitors could get their boats to Spain, and what sailors can expect from the Gulf of Roses.
