What is a Prindle 16 Catamaran
The Prindle 16 is a true classic beach cat — simple, tough, and brilliantly fun to sail.
Designed by Geoff Prindle and first built in 1971, more than 9,000 boats were produced, making it one of the most successful catamarans of its era.
Unlike some performance cats, the Prindle 16 uses asymmetric hulls instead of daggerboards, keeping the layout clean, durable, and easy to live with, while still delivering lively, rewarding sailing. With higher-volume hulls than the Hobie 16 and no raised trampoline, it’s forgiving, confidence-inspiring, and surprisingly capable in a breeze.
Perfect as a first catamaran, a club beach blaster, or a low-maintenance classic, the Prindle 16 suits sailors of all experience levels who want fast, honest sailing without complexity.
